We are looking for people who are knowledgeable and passionate about their craft. Maybe you’re a practicing artist or photographer, you write engaging screenplays or you love writing articles about the political/ social issues that matter to your community! We are looking for someone who knows their stuff, loves what they do and is passionate about being on the forefront of showcasing emerging artists of color! 

Since we are a volunteer run mag, we are unable to offer consistent compensation at this time. If you enrolled in a degree program, we can work with you to offer college credit!

TV/ Film/ Theater Editor, Politics/ Advocacy Editor, Prose (Fiction & Creative Nonfiction) Editor, Fashion Editor & Art Editor

Requirements: 

  • Strong writing and impeccable editing skills required 
  • Competent organization and communication skills is a must! 
  • Must be able to commit to approx. 5-15 hours per week (demand fluctuates with submission cycle) 
  • Preferably located in the NYC/ DMV/ or LA area. This position is remote, but we host in person events/ community meet ups and we’d love for our editors to be available to help us cultivate community where Mixed Mag team members are located.

As an Editor, your duties would include: 

  • Review, approve and deny submissions and curate section for each Issue release 
  • Edit and proofread work approved for publication in your section 
  • Bring on and manage a group of section contributors 
  • Write reviews or articles, interview up & coming creatives for features, and contribute original work to your section on a quarterly basis. 
  • Work with Marketing Team to highlight section’s work on social media and participate in social media takeovers on a quarterly basis 
  • Attend bi-weekly team meetings 
  • Opportunity to host in-person or virtual events and create original projects such as IGTV videos, podcasts, Youtube shows, etc.

Social Media Manager 

Requirements: 

  • Strong writing required
  • Competent organization and communication skills is a must! 
  • Must be able to commit to approx. 5-15 hours per week and be available to interact daily on social media
  • Preferably located in the NYC/DMV/LA area. This position is remote, but we host in person events/ community meet ups and we’d love for our team members to be available to help us cultivate community where Mixed Mag team members are located.

As Social Media Manager, your duties would include: 

  • Oversee and maintain social media accounts (Instagram & Twitter). Interact daily on Instagram. 
  • Provide continuous insight about online presence and presents ideas to increase consumer engagement 
  • Work with section editor(s) and Marketing Director to curate social media calendar
  • Maintain communication on social media by responding to direct messages and relaying information to appropriate section editors
  • Produce innovative and fun content for social media (ex. IGTV videos, reels, Youtube videos, etc)

Editorial/ Administrative Assistant

As Editorial/ Administrative Assistant, your duties would include:

  • Offer creative input on submissions 
  • Working closely with our Editor-in-Chief and section editors on editing pieces for publication (20-30 pieces per month) 
  • Assist the Director of Operations on administrative and development tasks such as researching grants and funding opportunities
  • Contribute an original submission monthly to a section of your choice and receive feedback from our editors
